Your Healing Journey FAQ

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle, holistic therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet correspond to different organs and systems throughout the body. By applying focused pressure to these points, reflexology aims to promote deep relaxation, support the body's natural balance, and encourage overall wellbeing.

What happens during a treatment?

You'll be welcomed into a calm, private treatment room and settled comfortably into a reclining chair or couch (only your feet and lower legs need to be uncovered). After a brief chat about your wellbeing and any areas you'd like to focus on, I'll use my hands to apply gentle, rhythmic pressure across your feet. Most people find it deeply relaxing, and many drift off or lose track of time completely.

Does reflexology hurt?

No — reflexology should never be painful. You may notice some areas feel more sensitive than others, which can simply reflect areas of tension in the body, but the pressure is always adjusted to your comfort. Please let me know at any point during your session if you'd like the pressure lighter or firmer.

Can I have reflexology during pregnancy?

Yes, reflexology is wonderful during pregnancy. It can provide much-needed relaxation and help with common symptoms like swollen ankles or backache. However, I usually recommend waiting until after your first trimester before starting your sessions.

Is reflexology suitable for everyone?

Reflexology is safe for most people and is often enjoyed as a way to relax and support general wellbeing. However, there are a few circumstances where I'd need to know more beforehand or adapt the treatment — for example, if you are pregnant, have a foot injury, a blood clotting condition, or are undergoing medical treatment. Please mention any health conditions or concerns when booking, or get in touch beforehand if you're unsure whether reflexology is right for you.

Is reflexology a substitute for medical treatment?

No. Reflexology is a complementary therapy that supports overall wellbeing — it isn't a diagnosis, medical treatment, or a replacement for advice from your GP or healthcare provider. If you have a specific health concern, please continue to follow the guidance of your medical team alongside any reflexology sessions.

Why book a course rather than single sessions?

Reflexology tends to have a cumulative effect, so many clients find that regular sessions bring more noticeable and lasting benefits than a single treatment. A course also works out more cost-effective per session — it's a lovely way to build wellbeing time into your routine.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and depends on what you're hoping to get from your treatments. Some clients come for a single relaxing session, while others prefer regular visits as part of an ongoing wellbeing routine. We can chat about what might suit you best during your initial consultation.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing is best. You won't need to undress — only your shoes and socks come off, so loose trousers or something you can easily roll up to the knee is ideal.

How should I prepare, and is there any aftercare?

There's nothing special you need to do beforehand — just try to arrive a few minutes early so you're not rushed. After your treatment, it's a good idea to drink plenty of water and allow yourself some quiet time if you can, as some people feel a little tired or notice increased trips to the bathroom as their body settles — this is a normal response and nothing to worry about.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself! If it's your first visit, it can help to have a general idea of your medical history and any current medications, but I'll guide you through everything during the consultation.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange my appointment?

I understand plans change, and I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. This gives me the chance to offer the appointment to another client.

  • 24 hours' notice or more: your deposit can be transferred to a new appointment.

  • Less than 24 hours' notice, or a missed appointment: the full cost of the treatment will be charged to the card used at booking.

If you're facing an exceptional or unavoidable circumstance, please get in touch — I'm always happy to discuss this with you.
